Harlan Noel Tabb
Harlan Noel Tabb, 78, Altus, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2006 at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on April 16, 1928 at Blair, Oklahoma to Allen and Vesta (Boatman) Tabb, the youngest of six children. He attended Blair School and graduated in 1946. He was an outstanding athlete and played on the Blair 1945 State Champion Basketball team. He also pitched for the first Jackson County American Legion Baseball Team.
In 1945 Harlan married Betty McLeod. To this union two sons were born – Jerry and Curtis. In 1956 the couple moved to Santa Ana, California where Harlan spent twelve years in the building industry. In 1964 the Tabb's returned to Altus and began farming, which he loved. He was an avid farmer, golfer, fisherman, and loved teaching his grandsons to hunt and fish. In the 1980’s he joined a group of Altus farmers to form the Farmers Cooperative Gin, has served on the Board of Directors and is still a member of the Coop. Harlan and Betty took great pride in traveling to watch son Jerry play baseball at Tulsa University and later play pro ball with the Cubs and Oakland A’s. When physically able, they never missed a softball game granddaughter Leah played at Putnam City and Kansas University. For years Harlan arose early daily to join friends for breakfast at the café. He loved gardening. Even this spring he urged Betty to plant tomatoes, peppers and squash so he could see the vines grow. He delighted in sharing vegetables with the neighbors and helping them with home repairs. Seldom did he miss the golf or major league baseball games on TV. He was a member of the Elks Country Club and a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church. For years he coached Little League Baseball.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Cloyse, Kenneth, Allen Lowell and Raymond (Matt) during WWII. Survivors include his wife of sixty one years, Betty; sons Jerry of Houston; Curtis and wife Tina of Olatha, Kansas; grandchildren Leah and Kevin Henderson; Jeff, Jared and Joel Tabb; a sister Owayne McLeod; a sister-in-law Patsy Cox and husband Forest; a beloved former daughter-in-law Mary Tabb; beloved brother-in-law Robert Howell McLeod and many special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Harlan Tabb will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 25, 2006 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Rev. David Player officiating. Burial will follow services at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Robert Taylor
Dr. Robert L. Taylor, 84, died Monday, January 16, 2006 at the Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Ok. Memorial Services will be held at a later date at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Co. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Robert Leighton Taylor was born October 10, 1921 in Cambridge, Ma. to Robert S. and Ruth (Stohl) Taylor. He graduated from high school in Evansville, In. in May of 1939. He enjoyed a long and distinguished military career from 1942 until his retirement from the United States Air Force at the rank of LT. Colonel on July 31, 1966. He taught chemistry at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Co. He attained a Ph.D. in Chemistry in 1970 from Colorado State University at FT. Collins, Co. He especially enjoyed Egyptian and Civil War history. He was a member of the University of Hawaii Volcanic Research Team. He married Lyn Hudson on August 31, 2000 in Lawton, Ok. His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Lyn of Altus; daughter, Carolyn Coffin and husband Brad of Lake Forest Park, WA; son, Larry Taylor and wife Karen of Chesterfield, Sc; grandchildren, Sarah and Seth Taylor and two step daughters, Kelli Penstock and husband John of Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. and Toni Weeks of Arvada, Co. and one stepson, Steven Hudson of Denver, Co. Elsie Louise Taylor
Elsie Louise Taylor, 92, Altus, died Saturday January 22, 2005 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at the Highland Heights United Methodist Church with Reverend George Lupton officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.
Elsie was born May 18, 1912 in Bessie, Oklahoma. She was one of six children born to Ed and Emma Behnke and was reared on a farm in the Bessie community. After graduating from Clinton High School, she attended Southwestern University in Weatherford. She married Raymond Taylor and had one son, Bill, and a daughter, Diana, and lived in Hobart for many years. Elsie later moved to Altus and was employed at Altus Air Force Base until her retirement. She took great pride in her work and working with the public gave her much pleasure. Elsie was a “farm girl” at heart and much preferred a ride in the country over a trip to the mall. She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by her son, Dr. Bill Taylor and his wife Eleanor, a daughter, Diana Schulz and her husband, Denzle; four grandchildren, Louis Taylor & wife Stephanie; Cindy Bickelmann and husband Paul; Mark Schulz and wife Colleen; Mike Schulz and wife Reenie; and nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Clem Steve Terry
Clem Steve Terry, 79, Eldorado, died Monday, May 22, 2006 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 26, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Eldorado with Rev. Pete Wylie and Rev. Dean Goodfellow officiating. Clem Steve Terry was born October 13, 1926 in Eldorado, OK to W.A. Sr. and Ara Lee (Roten) Terry. He attended Purvis Hill and Eldorado Schools. He married Margaret Nell Smith on December 12, 1964 in Quanah, TX. Clem loved farming and worked cotton and wheat for many years. He collected toy tractors and implements. Clem was a member of the Eldorado Baptist Church.
Clem was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a sister, Tressie Walker and a brother, W.A. Terry Jr.. Clem is survived by four nieces, Zelma Kirby of Eldorado, OK, Lillie Emberling Crowley, LA, Carolyn Harrington of Big Springs, TX and Donna Barron of Big Springs, TX; nephew, James Walker of Snyder, TX; three cousins, Billie Sue Roten of Cleburne, TX, Leonard Roten of Topeka, KS and Glenn Hardy of Hillsboro, TX; six great nieces and six great nephews. Leander Preston Thacker
Leander Preston Thacker, 85, long time Altus resident, died Saturday, January 7, 2006 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2006 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will follow services at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.
He was born on December 10, 1920 in Peytonsburg, Kentucky to James Lester and Gladys (Coop) Thacker. He graduated from Ozark High School, Jackson County, Oklahoma in 1940. He attended college at Oklahoma State University where he played on the basketball team. He continued his education and graduated from Panhandle State in Goodwell, Oklahoma. He entered the Army Air Corps on September 20, 1942 and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on October 21, 1945. He married Betty Joyce Ford on July 25, 1948. He taught one year in Turpin, Oklahoma; three years in Canute, Oklahoma; three years in Boise City, Oklahoma and retired in 1981 following 26 years of Civil Service at Altus Air Force Base. He repaired and refinished furniture for many years in his shop at his home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus. He enjoyed building things for the outdoors and for his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports in school. Preston was known as “grandpa” to all.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Gwen Hays. He is survived by his wife Betty Joyce of the home in Altus; his daughter Sherry Faucher and her husband Johnnie of Altus; his son-in-law Earl Hays of Avilla, TN; his son Randy Thacker and his wife Denise of Victoria, TX; his son Leander Thacker and his wife Teresa of Altus; seven grandchildren, Samantha, Heath, Heather, Brandon, Jonathon, Kenny, Cory and Jami; two sisters, Nelda Smith of Willow, Ok; Leona Strong of Ada, Ok; two brothers, Kenneth Thacker of Oklahoma City, Ok; Donnie Thacker of Granite, Ok; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Foy A. Thomason
Foy A. Thomason, 71, Altus, died Thursday, December 1, 2005 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 Saturday, December 3, 2005 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Jack McKeown and David Lovejoy officiating. Interment will follow services at the Restlawn Cemetery.
He was born on February 4, 1934 in Harmon County, Oklahoma to Ed and Elpha (Reeves) Thomason. He graduated from Victory High School in 1953. He married Ruth Long on September 27, 1955 in Altus, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He worked for his father-in-law, Pat Long, following his military service. He then worked for Jones Oldsmobile and later for Frank Smart with Smart Oldsmobile. He retired in January of 2005 from Wilmes Superstore as a service advisor for several years. His total automotive career spanned over 46 years. He was a long time member of the Thomas Street Church of Christ where he has served as a deacon. He enjoyed working on cars, fishing, camping, four wheeling and drinking coffee at McDonalds with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jess and his son Bob LaJon. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth Thomason of Altus; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Dawn Thomason of Berwick, Louisiana; Wylie and Suzie Thomason of Carrollton, Texas; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Eddie and Jan Thomason of Selah, Washington; Glen Thomason of Wellston, Oklahoma; his mother-in-law, Katie Long of Altus; three grandchildren, Ben, Brittani and Becca and many friends. Zoel Thompson
Zoel Thompson, 86, long time resident of Duncan, OK, passed away, Saturday, February 2, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home #2 in Hollis. Graveside services will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 6 with Phil Ware officiating in the Duncan Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.
Zoel was born on February 4, 1921 to Joe and Katherine M. (McClarren) Wheeler at Warner, Oklahoma. Zoel and R.G. Thompson were united in marriage on June 1, 1940. She earned her AA degree at Warner State College. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Duncan, where she taught Sunday school. She was active in the Country Club and Bridge Club. She was proficient in and enjoyed sewing, interior decorating, writing, singing, and entertaining. She loved politics and was host to many fundraisers and politicians that visited Stephens County. One of her prized possessions was her engraved invitation to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Inauguration and Ball.
Zoel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, R.G. Thompson; and one son, Jerry Robert Thompson.
She is survived by two daughters; Kathy Darby and her husband, Jon of Duke, Oklahoma and Sharon Quick and her husband Art, of Nashville, Tennessee; one sister, Ruth Anne Eoff; six grandchildren, Blake Darby and wife Kathy, of Altus, OK, Kristi Medders and husband, Darren also of Altus, Dave Darby of Norman, OK, Kevin Gardner and wife Tammy of Marrietta, OK, Marieca Pilcher and husband, Troy of Moore, OK and Jane Broll and husband Kurt of Jacksonville Beach, FL, also surviving Zoel is eleven great-granddaughters.

Verdell Tigert
Verdell Tigert, 83, of Altus, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Plantation Village Nursing Home. Memorial services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the Kincannon Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with James Barnes officiating. Vida Verdell Mitchell was born July 26, 1925 in Jackson County, Oklahoma to Roy and Lois (Williams) Mitchell. She attended school South of Creda in Jackson County, Oklahoma. She married Fred W. “Billy” Tigert on June 23, 1942 at Altus, Oklahoma. They moved to Houston, Texas then to Norman, Oklahoma before moving to Jackson County. They bought their first farm northwest of Duke and began farming in 1946. The young couple did custom combining and custom cotton stripping but what they enjoyed most was farming their irrigated cotton and wheat. Their irrigation well on the home place was one of the first dug in Jackson County. Mrs. Tigert also helped with the family cattle operation. She enjoyed talking and visiting with neighbors and friends, sewing, crocheting and farming with her husband Billy. She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and attended the Kingdom Hall in Altus, Oklahoma for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; stepfather Fred Nix and a brother J.P. Mitchell. She is survived by a son, Billy Kirk Tigert, and wife Mary, of Altus; a daughter, Linda Cribbs and husband Gary, also of Altus; four sisters; Klyda Ellingwood of Altus, Joyce Walling of Duncan, OK, Rita Belcher of Dallas, TX, and Leanna Marshall of Hobart, OK; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Bynum and Marjorie Tigert; four grandchildren, Breck Cribbs and Farah Tebow, both of Edmond, Ok; Toni Stackpole of Bera, Ky; Dallas Gossett of Abilene, Texas and several great-grandchildren.

Frank Edward Tittle
Frank Edward Tittle, 61, Altus, died Sunday, April 22, 2007 at his home of natural causes. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Wills Point, Texas. Services were provided by Kincannon Funeral Home.
He was born on June 15, 1945 in Comanche, Oklahoma to William R. and Evelyn M. Tittle. He graduated from Elk City High School in Elk City, Oklahoma with the Class of 1963. he attended Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma. He spent most of his adult life in the Altus area living with his grandparents, working on their farm and in the construction trades industry. One of his life time dreams was the planning and new construction of a house located on his grandparent’s farm, which stands today. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his love of animals and his fond interest in gardening.
Frank was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Maude Tittle; Edward and Ova Christmas by his parents, William R. and Evelyn M. Tittle. He is survived by sisters Rae Lyn Monroe of Littleton, Co; Tracey Anderson of Highlands Ranch, Co; five nieces, two great nieces and two great nephews. Betty Trest was born October 16, 1935 to Lewis and Opal Norma (Williams) Runnels in Cache, Oklahoma. She went to Cache School where she played basketball, softball, and was president of her class both of her Junior and Senior years. She married John Trest on September 25, 1953. She graduated as Valedictorian from Cache High School in 1954. Betty and John had five children. She worked for Altus Public Schools twenty-eight years as a cafeteria manager at Roosevelt School until her retirement in December 1997, due to heart problems. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Her life revolved around her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved to sing, dance, and enjoyed sports. Her door was always open to all of her children’s friends. She loved her family and loved to cook for them. She is and will always be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lewis Runnels and husband, John. Betty is survived by her mother, Opal Runnels, two daughters, Ramona Crabtree and husband Terry of Childress, Texas, Cathy Bradshaw and husband Joe of Altus, OK; three sons, John T. Erma Jean Weaver Tyus, 52, Columbus, Georgia, died at her home Tuesday, December 5, 2006. She was born on August 3, 1954 in Altus, Oklahoma to George Weaver and Naomi Crowley Weakley. She grew up in Altus and attended Lincoln High School. She had been a nurse for many years. She was a member of the Peaceful Holiness Church. She also enjoyed playing cards, shooting pool, playing basketball and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Garland Weakley and many aunts and uncles. She is survived by two daughters, Amber Grimes of Dayton, Ohio; April Jones and husband Quinton of Fort Benning, Ga; four sisters, Virginia Crowley Berry and husband Mark of Lawton, Ok; Diane Goodson and husband Dan of Altus, Ok; Linda Chandler of Altus, Ok; Earie McCaskill and husband William of Altus, Ok; three brothers, Terry Crowley of McAlester, Ok; Frank Crowley of Helena, Ok; Carlet Crowley and wife Marie of Seagoville, Tx; stepfather, Hullon Tyus of Columbus, Ga; one uncle, J.C. Crowley and wife Fanny of Altus; two aunts, Ginger Crowley of Altus; Doll Crowley of Wichita, Kansas; one granddaughter, Jamya Brown; a granddaughter-to-be Kamya Brown; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
