Charles Albert Smith, 71, Altus, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 30, 2017 in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery with retiree honors under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Charles Albert Smith was born on December 27, 1945 in Matador, Texas to Bill and Juanita (Plunkett) Smith. He grew up in Matador and graduated high school. He retired from the US Army as a Staff Sergeant after 20 years of service and was a tactical communications systems instructor. While in Korea, he was part of a nuclear emergency team. Charles married Jean Irene "Jeanie" Dawson in Fort Leonardwood, Missouri on February 29, 1968. He enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, carpentry and cooking.

His parents, his wife, Jeanie, sister, Barbara Scaggs, and a brother, John Smith, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Charles Wayne Smith and wife, Leslie; daughter, Rachell Wood and husband, David; six grandchildren, Ashley Nickole Smith, Charles "Butch" Smith, David Smith, MaryJo Smith, Clayton Wood and Travis Wood; and three brothers, Richard itSmh and wife, Ruby, Robert Smith and wife, Mary Ann, and Carl Smith.
