He was born to James F. and Dessie Mae Sessions Boyd on September 29, 1929 in Knox County, Texas. He married Darlene Ruth McCampbell on February 13, 1952 in San Diego, California and eventually made his home in Lawton. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he was stationed on the USS Wiseman as a radio operator, and then worked as a Heating/Air/Refrigeration repairman for more than 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, wife, brothers, Charles Boyd and Jack Boyd, sisters, Hope Whiteside and Benevee Patterson, brother-in-laws, WC Whiteside, Willie Patterson, and Sydney Duane McCampbell, and a sister-in-law, Viola Boyd.
He is survived by his children and their spouses: Rusty and Andrea Boyd of Bellevue, Washington; Stephen and Donna Boyd, of Altus; William Bryan Boyd, of Chickasha; Phillip and Pamela Boyd, of Mead; Don and Lisa Boyd, of Blanchard, Stephanie and Gary Marcum, of Cache; and John and Julie Magness of Elgin; grandchildren and spouses: Jonathan Marsicano, Western Kentucky; Nicholas Marsicano of Norman; Sarah Boyd, of Corn; Kathryn and Dennis Terry, of Granite; Anthony Prado and Phillip “P.J.” Boyd, Jr., both of Mead, Stephanie and Ryan Coffey of Durant; Diana and Josh Isom, of Blanchard; David and Heather Boyd of Duncan, Justin and Brooklyn Marcum of Cache; Chad and Krysta Marcum of Fort Worth, Texas; and Megan and Morgan Magness, both of Elgin; and nine great-grandchildren, Elliott Terry, Anthony Prado, Katie Prado, Holden Boyd, Addy Boyd, Chloe Boyd, Caden Isom, Jacob Isom, and Cole-Bayne Marcum; his sisters: Peggy Day, Genevee Stith, and Hattie Kinard; brother, James Boyd; and sister-in-law, Naomi McCampbell, and many nieces and nephews.
He was a great man of God! He served our Lord in many capacities – Song Leader and Bible Class Teacher to name a few. After his retirement, be became involved with the Institute of Biblical Studies and participated in two mission trips to India. He loved his wife, Darlene of 63 years and was such a loving caretaker until her death last year. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and was loved by his family and friends, but more importantly, he showed and shared God’s love with many, many others over the years. His and Darlene’s house was considered a “safe haven” by many in the neighborhood in Lawton, where they lived for more than 50 years. He will be missed by many but is now with The Lord. We thank God for the loving man and example that he was to all who knew him.
