Grady Lee Duckett

August 17, 1929 — August 4, 2017

Grady Lee Duckett, 87, Altus, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017 at the English Village Manor where he has lived since December 2014. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, August 7, 2017 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Born August 17, 1929, in Byers, TX to Willie Carl Duckett and Mary Oda (Bigham) Duckett, he was the middle of five children with two older brothers and two younger sisters. He attended school in Byers. He started helping on the farm when he was young, working for his father and other area farmers.
October 4, 1948, Grady married his perfect Okie bride, Jewell Morris of Waurika, OK in Wichita Falls, TX. They farmed in Byers before moving to Plainview, TX. Grady was a man of many talents and loved by all that met him. His charm and charisma helped him succeed as a salesman which took his family all over Texas and Southern Oklahoma. He attended Southwestern Bible College in Waxahachie, TX. After Roger and Teresa were born, the family moved back to West Texas where Grady managed a Piggly Wiggly.
Getting tired of being cooped up inside, Grady took his talents on the road, selling everything from cars to farm equipment to irrigation supplies. This brought the family to Altus, OK in 1966. While living in Altus, Grady continued being a salesman, raised cattle and farmed. Grady and Jewell opened an arts and crafts store, The Jewel Box, on Main Street.
After retiring in Altus, Jewell and Grady moved to a farm near Blanchard, OK. This place was the perfect place for the two to enjoy a slower paced life full of gardening, raising cattle, painting, peddling fresh Oklahoma produce, and spoiling two grandsons with the best country lifestyle imaginable. The boys wanted puppies, they got puppies; they boys wanted to pick blackberries, they picked buckets full; they wanted to fish, they fished until dark; and they wanted a horse, they got, you guessed it, a horse.
In 1998, the couple returned to Altus to be closer to their family, friends, and grandsons. During these years, they traveled for weeks at a time in their camper trailer and pontoon boat. Grady was also known near and far as the man with the freshest produce and best pecans money can buy (often shipping as far as California). We do not know if he made any money, but rain or blistering heat did not keep him from his customers.
Grady was a loving husband, amazing father, and exceptional Pawpaw. He dedicated his life to Jesus Christ and made Him the focus of all he did. He and Jewell were proud members of Park Lane Assembly of God in Altus.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell; his parents; his son, Roger; two brothers and their wives, Ralph and Donie Duckett and Gordon and Mary Duckett; and one brother-in-law, M.T. Pieratt. Survivors include his daughter, Teresa and her husband, Larry McLaughlin, of Altus; two grandsons, Jarrod McLaughlin of Lawton and Jentry McLaughlin and his wife, Paige, of Lawton; two sisters, Roenia Pieratt of Arlington, Texas and Ophelia Cullipher and her husband, Jimmy, of Grand Prairie, Texas; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

The Duckett family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Kincannon Funeral Home.
