Jean Gignac

April 22, 1942 — September 13, 2016

Jean Gignac, 74, Altus, passed away Tuesday morning, September 13, 2016 at the Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, OK. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 17, 2016at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Jean M. Burgess was born April 22, 1942 to Harold and Jean (Gilman) Burgess in Lewiston, Maine. She attended Dover High School in Dover, New Hampshire. Jean and Ron Gignac were united in marriage on April 30, 1960 in Schenectady, New York. To this union four children were born. Jean was a homemaker when her children were young and at home. She was a loving, supportive military wife for her husband, Ron, and a caring, attentive mother to her children. Later, she held many customer service and accounting positions. When the Gignac's moved to Altus in 1983, she was employed with AAFES at Altus Air Force Base in several different locations including the Shopette, Four Seasons, the BX, Base Alterations and the Base Package Store. Jean was also employed by the Butch O'Neal VFW Post 4876 as the canteen manager for many years. Her passion was the Ladies Auxiliary where she formed a special bond with friends whom she later called "family." She served as Auxiliary President in 1989 - 1990 and 2005 - 2006. She also served as District President several times. Jean held many other positions within the Auxiliary but she absolutely loved serving as treasurer the most. She was very disappointed when she had to resign this past year due to her illness.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother - law, Clarence Ashe.

She is survived by two daughters, Cheri Carson and husband Donald, Michelle Holt and husband Tommy; two sons, Mike Gignac and wife Michelle and Ronald Gignac, Jr., and wife Angelina; grandchildren, Jake Kent and wife Cassie, William Kent and fiance' Tatiana, Robert Kent, Michael Gignac and wife Illa, Justin Gignac and Logan Blanton, Dalton Gignac, Jessica Miranda and husband Erick, Christopher Holt and wife Kadi, Delana Garcia and husband Ruben, Fernando Lopez, Kyle Gignac, Kayla Gignac as well as nineteen great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a sister, Barbara Ashe and a brother, Harold "Kip" Burgess.

The Gignac family will greet friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kincannon Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Auxiliary, 500 N. Veterans Drive, Altus, OK 73521.

Additional parking for the service is available behind the funeral home, Days Inn to the South and Western Sizzlin' to the North.
