Jerry Lucas

October 9, 1938 — April 6, 2018

Royden “Jerry” Lucas, 79, of Elmer, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, April 6, 2018. Celebration of his life will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jason Duree officiating. Interment will follow at the Hess Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Jerry was born at the Gilham farm at Creta, Oklahoma to Roy and Bessie Lucas on October 9, 1938. He went to school at Southside School. After graduation, he attended the University of Oklahoma for three years on a baseball scholarship. He married Eva Letha Reynolds on August 4, 1962 in Vernon, TX. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He spent his life living in the Elmer community and doing what he loved—farming cotton, wheat and working cattle. He served on the Humphrey’s Coop board for 24 years. He was a long-time member and deacon of Southside Baptist Church. He was also a strong supporter of the Altus Chamber Commerce Committee of 100 which supports Altus Air Force Base newcomers and those returning from deployment.
He enjoyed many things. Among those things were driving Ford pick-ups through the Oklahoma countryside, watching OU Sooner football, and sharing stories with friends and family. He had many stories to tell about going on wheat harvest with his Mom and Dad as a young man; and going on cotton harvest to south Texas with his Elmer farming friends. He loved to drink Braum’s milk, cooking great beef stew, and making the best cornbread. He despised using computers, eating chicken, and hunting for his tools that were “borrowed.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Bessie Lucas, and his sister, Roylyn Kay Tyra.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 55 years Eva Letha; his son and daughter-in-law Greg and Molly Lucas of Elmer, OK; his daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Matt Coppock of Elmer, OK; and his daughter and son-in-law Lori and Carl Sisson of Saint Johns, FL. He is also, survived by his grandchildren: Evan Coppock and his wife Jordan of Altus, OK; Blake Sisson and his fiancée Meaghan Neufeld of Altus, OK; Lauren Sisson of Saint Johns, FL; Dustin Lucas and his wife Sydney of Ada, OK; Dylan Lucas and his wife Lisa of Mangum, OK; Darren Lucas of Elmer, OK; Alyssa and Corey Jones of Tipton, OK; Emma Thompson of Elmer, OK, and Brett Thompson of Elmer, OK. He has two great-grandchildren Adley Kaye Coppock of Altus, OK and Hayden Neufeld of Altus, OK. He is, also, survived by a brother-in-law Guy Tyra of Hudson Oaks, TX; his aunt Nedra Mitchell of Hereford, TX; and his dear friend and cousin Robetha Fariss of Weatherford, OK, in addition, to numerous other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons Evan Coppock, Blake Sisson; Dustin, Dylan, and Darren Lucas; Brett Thompson, Corey Jones, and his granddaughter Lauren Sisson.
