Clifford Jim McElroy

February 15, 1929 — October 2, 2016

Clifford J. McElroy, 87, Warren, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Dennis Osborne officiating. Burial will follow services in the Warren Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Clifford Jim McElroy was born at home in rural Warren on February 15, 1929 to Jim and Lydia (Tufford) McElroy. Cliff also had one brother, Leland and a sister, Illene. The family moved to California in 1944, but due to Lydia’s health moved back to Warren in 1945. Cliff was saved at the Warren Baptist Church in 1946 and graduated from Warren High School in 1947. Cliff married Carolyn Goolsby on June 29, 1950. The couple had two children, Jimmy McElroy born on Aug 2nd, 1955 and Sandra Lynn McElroy Born on July 16th, 1957.

After being married, Cliff and Carolyn moved to Appleton, Wisconsin where Cliff worked for Marathon Corporation until he was drafted and served in the US Army in Korea. When Cliff returned from the service he and Carolyn moved to El Paso Texas where Cliff worked for the Banes Company. They moved back to Warren in 1970 and built a home 7 miles east of Blair. Cliff started McElroy Construction, later he and Jimmy had a custom combine business. After that he was the manager of the Jackson County Water Co.

Cliff, Dee Butchee, and CH Chastain started the Warren Volunteer Fire Department, where they built the old building. Cliff was also on the board of directors of the Warren Senior Citizens Center and helped to get the new building built. He was the president of the board for 8 years. Cliff also taught Sunday school for over 35 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Lydia McElroy; his brother, Leland McElroy; and his son Jimmy McElroy. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn McElroy; daughter Sandy Fanning and husband Mark; three grandchildren, Clifford Jim McElroy II and wife, Caiti; Russell Fanning and wife, Laurie; and Carter Fanning; 3 great grandchildren, CJ and Poppy McElroy, and Benjamin Fanning.

Cliff loved riding horses and going to rodeos. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

The McElroy family will greet friends Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kincannon Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Warren Cemetery Fund, PO Box 5, Blair, OK 73526.
Additional parking for the service is available behind the funeral home, Days Inn to the South and Western Sizzlin' to the North.
