Harvey Reid Petzold, 75, Elmer, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at the Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 9, 2013 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Wes Kinder officiating. Burial will follow at the Navajoe Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Harvey Petzold was born on December 13, 1937 to Ervin Oswald and Lillie (Bennett) Petzold in Altus, Oklahoma. He attended school at Friendship and played baseball along with the 1954 state champion team members, Eddie Fisher, Keith and Edsel Wiginton, Loren and Burl Winters, Dudley Savage, Melton Townsend, Earl Reynolds, and other players. He graduated from Friendship School in 1956. He married Jereta Hall on July 19, 1959 in Headrick, Oklahoma. To this union three children were born: Corwin, Carrie, and Cheri. He was a longtime farmer, raising wheat, cotton, alfalfa, and cattle. He enjoyed his years in farming, especially driving a tractor and baling hay. As a young man, Harvey was confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Granite. He was a longtime member and deacon of the Friendship Baptist Church. He was instrumental in the beginning of the Friendship volunteer fire department. Harvey was a founding board member of the Jackson County Water Company and a board member at the Friendship Coop Gin. His kind and giving spirit was instrumental in helping build the Navajo School and the Friendship Baptist Church. He also enjoyed cooking, hanging out with friends and loved spending time with his grandkids. Mr. Petzold was preceded in death by his mother, Lillie, and two brothers-in-law, Lonnie Allen and John Foley. He is survived by his father, Ervin, of Altus, Oklahoma; one son, Corwin Petzold and wife, Lisa, of Elmer, Oklahoma; two daughters, Carrie Thornton of Altus, Oklahoma and Cheri Kay and husband, Greg, of Altus, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Weston Kay, Whitley Kay, Colton Thornton, Cambrie Thornton, and Seth Petzold; two sisters, Brenda Allen of Elk City, Oklahoma and Debra Mardis of Altus, Oklahoma; three brothers, David Petzold and wife, Brenda, of Altus, Oklahoma, Jerry Petzold and wife, Alice, of Edmond, Oklahoma and Alan Petzold of Yukon, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The Petzold family will greet friends Sunday afternoon from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Kincannon Funeral Home. Additional parking for the service is available behind the funeral home, Best Western to the South or Western Sizzlin’ to the North.
