Jimmie Lee York, age 73, passed away suddenly at his home in Choctaw, Oklahoma on Sunday, March 22, 2015. Jim was born September 24, 1941 in Stockton, Missouri to Wilford and Genevieve York. In 1980, after 21 years of serving his country, Jim retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force. Then he spent another 19 years serving the communities of Eldorado and Duke as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. While in the military, Jim was deployed overseas to Spain, Newfoundland and Thailand. He was awarded numerous ribbons and medals. And upon retirement, he was awarded the USAF Commendation Medal. Jim was also known by his friends and family as the proverbial “Good Samaritan.” He was always stopping to help stranded motorists or anyone else that seemed to need assistance. Jim even received a certificate of commendation from the City of Altus for saving a baby’s life. Among Jim’s hobbies were elk hunting, bass fishing, golfing and spending time with his grandchildren. In the last several years, he also enjoyed the art of reloading. Jim is survived by his wife, Rebecca Reynolds York; Daughter, Catherine York Gover and spouse, Jim Gover, of Altus; Son, Steven York and spouse, Ginger York, of Oklahoma City; Daughter, Teresa York Heims and spouse, Jason Heims, of Midlothian, TX; Grandchildren, Rachel and spouse, DJ, Morgan, Taylor and spouse, Matt, Allison, Autumn, and Levi; Great-grandchildren, Thomas and Lilly; Sister, Betty York Bogle and spouse, Norman Bogle, of Marshfield, MO and Helen York Heidel and spouse, Clyde Heidel, of Willard, MO. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was a good friend and will be sorely missed by so many. His was a life well lived. A small celebration service will be held at Choctaw United Methodist Church with Pastor Andy James officiating on Wednesday, March 25, at 11 AM. Visitation for friends and family will then be held on Wednesday evening at Kincannon Funeral Home in Altus from 6 until 8pm. Graveside services with full military honors with Rod Smith officiating will be at the Altus Cemetery at 11am on Thursday, March 26th. Arrangements are provided by Barnes-Friederich Funeral Home in Midwest City, and Kincannon Funeral Home in Altus.
