Laverne S. Sheppard, 68, Altus, was called home on Friday, August 15, 2014 in Lawton, Oklahoma after a lengthy battle with her illness. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Spirit of the Lord International Church with Apostle Robert Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Laverne graced the world with her presence on February 22, 1946 to Pearlean and O.D. Sample in Altus, Oklahoma. She was the third of eight children. She attended Lincoln Public School in Altus. Laverne was a devoted sister, mother, aunt and friend. She joined church and accepted Christ at an early age at the New Hope Baptist Church. At a later date, she moved her membership to the Spirit of the Lord under the ministry of Apostle Robert Jackson. In 1982, she married Will Sheppard in Altus, Oklahoma. She worked for the Park Lane Nursing Home for over 15 years and English Village Manor for over 30 years. She retired shortly thereafter due to her health. Laverne enjoyed cooking and playing bingo. Her main joy came from spending time with family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, adopting parents, Mary and Clint Branah; two sisters, LaWanda Shelton and husband, Uncle, Jr., and Pearlie Mae Randle and husband, Richard; two brothers, Larry Sample and DeAutery Curry; and a niece, Towanna Randle. She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Sharon B. Laws of Altus, OK; two sisters, Clarene Branch of Altus, OK and Teresa Johnson of Vernon, TX; three brothers, O.D. Sample, Jr. and wife, Nettie, of Oklahoma City, OK, Kenneth Curry and wife, Joy, of Arlington, TX and Tim Curry of Arizona; special family members, Verletta, LaVeda, Curtis, T’Micheal, Carmen, TeAnna, Jennifer F., Jennifer W and Koko; a very special and longtime friend, Donna Johnson; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and saints.
