Marvin L. "Possum" Brown, 79, Altus, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the Plantation Village Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 28, 2015 in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Rev. Andrew Young and Rev. Marlon Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.
Marvin L. Brown was born on December 12, 1935 in Melrose, New Mexico to Jess and Armel Pauline (Vaughan) Brown. He was nicknamed "Possum" by his dad when he was a little boy. The name stayed with him all his life. He attended school in Melrose, New Mexico. He began working at a young age with his stepfather in road construction, then started hauling milk. At that time, they picked up milk in five gallon containers. He then worked for North Texas Milk Producers.
Possum married Patricia Free in 1960. To this union, one daughter, Tallie Delene, was born. Patricia passed away and later he married Patty Cook in Pampa, Texas on March 25, 1967. He continued his work with hauling milk from the dairies for Associated Milk Producers. Later, he drove the transports, hauling the milk to the plants for many years. He received the Million Miles Accident Free Award in May of 1989. The last several years, he worked for his nephew, Les Brown, at Equipment Service and Welding, with his son, Monte Brown, and nephew, Jessie Brown.
Possum was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed family reunions and loved to fish and watch baseball on the television, especially the Atlanta Braves. For the last several years, Marvin came to know the Lord in a special way and loved being with the church family. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
Possum was preceded in death by his father, Jess Brown, mother and stepfather, Pauline and Bill Mayhon, three brothers, Leslie Otis Brown, Raymond Brown, and his twin brother, Melvin Don Brown, and a sister, Viola Pickle.
He is survived by his wife, Patty Brown of the home; two daughters, Tallie Stubbs and husband, Chris, of Oklahoma City, OK and Ramona "Mona" Kitterman and husband, Donnie, of Gage, OK; a son, Monte Brown and wife, Katie, of Altus, OK; six grandchildren, Christen Haller and husband, Jim, Tonya Chaney, Braxton Brown, Bradin Calvert, BreAuna Calvert and Logan Brown; two great granddaughters, Sara Chaney and Annabelle Haller; three sisters, Ethel Mae Pricer of Ignacio, CO, Thelma McCarty and husband, Charlie, of Reserve, NM, and Helen Pate and husband, Carol, of Post, TX; a sister-in-law, Joyce Brown of Fort Sumner, NM; and several nieces and nephews that he loved and were very special to him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
