Mildred Lee Burkham

August 15, 1934 — January 5, 2022

Mildred Lee Burkham, 87, of Blair, Oklahoma peacefully went to be with her Savior on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the Magnolia Creek Nursing Facility in Altus. The family will greet friends Friday, January 7, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Kincannon Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 8th at the Blair First Baptist Church with Pastor Tyler McDowell and Rev. Doug Altom officiating. Interment will follow at the Blair Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Mildred Lee Hibler was born on August 15, 1934 in Hartley, Texas to Harvey Page and Bobbie Mae (Reid) Hibler. She was raised in the Hartley and Dumas areas of the Texas Panhandle. She played basketball in high school and was offered a position with the Red Heads, which was a traveling women’s basketball team. She met her future husband, Gilbert Asa “G.A.”, at a café in Dumas where she worked. They married on May 4, 1953 in Houston, Texas. They lived all over Texas and Oklahoma chasing G.A.’s oil field and iron working jobs before settling in Blair in 1962. They spent 35 years together until his untimely death. Mildred was a stay-at-home mother and housewife most of her life. She was a member of the Blair First Baptist Church where she worked as a custodian for several years. She was an avid volunteer with the PTA and Jackson County Election Board as well as lending a helping a hand at church in the choir, and in the children’s ministries, including the Girls in Action. Mildred enjoyed gardening, quilting, making dish towels and doing arts and crafts, and especially craft shows with her dear friend, Lou Newport.

She was preceded in death by her husband, G.A.; parents, Harvey and Bobbie Mae; daughter, Jeannie Smith; grandson, Chris Hendricks; sister, Kak; and three brothers, John, Joe, and Jim.

Mildred is survived by her son, Alan Burkham and wife, Mary; daughters, Jeri Horn and Tracy Ellis all of Blair; four granddaughters, Wanda Bercegeay and husband, Randy of Optima, OK, Heather Chapman and husband, Mike of Okinawa, Japan, Amy Weeks and husband, Chris of North Richland Hills, TX, and Kristin Ellis of North Richland Hills, TX; three grandsons, Darrin Ellis and wife, Chelsey of Yukon, OK, Coltin Ellis and wife, Phoenix of Norman, OK, and Dalton Ellis of Yukon, OK; eleven great grandchildren; two great-great grandsons; one sister, Donna Bosholm and husband, John of Driftwood, TX; three brothers, Bill Hibler of Wilcox, AZ, David Hibler and wife, Mary of Tomball, TX, Mike Hibler of San Leon, TX; nineteen nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

At a request of the family and to honor Mildred’s wishes, the family respectfully asks that everyone who plans to attend her viewing or memorial service to please wear a mask and to social distance as much as possible.
