Morene Popchoke

Morene Popchoke, 85, Granbury, Texas, formerly of Altus, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022. A Private Family Graveside service will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022. Services are under the care of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Friends may sign the book now and viewing will begin Thursday, September 22, 2022.

Morene was born on January 31, 1937 in Levelland, Texas to Carl Nimo and Velma Irene (Herrington) Lollis. She attended Ozark Schools from 1st-4th grades before moving to Altus where she graduated with the Altus Class of 1955. She obtained an Associate of Arts degree from Altus Jr. College, a Bachelor of Science degree from Cameron College, and a Master’s degree in Education from Southwestern State College. Morene married Don Popchoke on June 6, 1954 in Altus and to this union two children were born, Deby and Tommy. She began teaching school in 1972, teaching 1st & 2nd grades at Washington Elementary at Altus Public Schools before retiring in 1994. Morene was an active member of the Elm & Hudson Church of Christ and even worked as the Teacher Resource Coordinator after her retirement. She moved to Ft. Worth, Texas after her husband, Don, passed away in 2013 where she spent many happy years with family and friends. She became an active member of the Western Hills Church of Christ and later the Granbury Church of Christ.

Her husband; parents; and grandparents preceded Morene in death. Those left to honor her memory are her children, Deby Green and Tommy Popchoke; grandchildren, Dustin Green, Austin Green, Brad Popchoke, and Whitney Popchoke; great grandchildren Becca, Mia, Connor, Gracie, Olivia, Noelle, and Hunter; and her sister, Betty Baumann.
