Ronald Thomas Gignac, 76, Altus, passed away at his home Friday, March 13, 2015. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Gary Kincannon officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Veterans Section of the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Ronald Thomas Gignac was born July 8, 1938 to Eugene and Rita (Furness) Gignac in Schenectady, New York. He graduated from the Nott Terrace High School, Schenectady, New York, in 1955. Ron and Jean Burgess were united in marriage on April 30, 1960 in Schenectady, New York. Ron proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for thirty one years. He served as a Flight Engineer and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in January of 1990. He was the Commander of VFW Post 4876 twice, 1988 - 1989 and 2005 - 2006. He also volunteered his time setting Veteran's markers in area cemeteries. Ron was a member of the Catholic Church. He was always tinkering with something, especially auto mechanics. He enjoyed auto racing, owned the Martha Speedway and had built a T bucket car. Ron is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Gignac; brother-in-law, James Walker; and sister-in-law, Ann Gignac. He is survived by his wife, Jean, of the home; two daughters, Cheri Carson and husband, Donald, of Holiday, FL and Michelle Holt and husband, Tommy, of Altus, OK; two sons, Mike Gignac and wife, Michelle, of Chesapeake, VA and Ronald Gignac, Jr. and wife, Angelina, of El Paso, TX; twelve grandchildren, Jake Kent and wife, Cassie, of Schenectady, NY, William Kent and fiance, Tatiana Edmondson, of Schenectady, NY, Robert Kent of Schenectady, NY, Michael Gignac and wife, Illa, of Tacoma, WA, Justin Gignac and partner, Logan Blanton, of Roseville, CA, Dalton Gignac of Chesapeake, VA, Jessica Miranda and husband, Erick, of Blair, OK, Christopher Holt and wife, Kadi, of Blair, OK, Delana Garcia and husband, Ruben, of San Antonio, TX, Fernando Lopez of San Antonio, TX, and Kyle and Kayla Gignac, both of El Paso, Texas; eighteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene Gignac and wife, Dottie, of Delanson, NY and Fred Gignac of Florida; one sister, Linda Walker of Ekron, KY; and many friends. The Gignac family will greet friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Kincannon Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jackson County Memorial Hospital Hospice, 1200 East Pecan, Altus, OK 73521. Additional parking for the service is available behind the funeral home, Best Western to the South or Western Sizzlin’ to the North.
