Amelia Alcorta Sanchez was born to Espiridion Luna and Adelaida (Alcorta) Luna on December 23, 1958, in Jourdanton, Texas south of San Antonio. The family moved from location to location as migrant workers, frequently making their temporary home in SW Oklahoma. The many travels amplified Amelia’s very likeable spirit, and she made friends everywhere she went. One cotton harvest season she met Esteban Sanchez in Altus. The young couple fell in love and quickly eloped to Vernon, Texas. They married on May 2, 1975, and together they built a life grounded in love, hard work, and family.
Amelia took great pride in creating a loving home, filled with laughter and music. No matter where they lived, Amelia was attentive in making their space a home.
She had a special way of making everyone feel seen and heard. Whether it was offering a warm meal to a neighbor in need or lending an ear to a friend going through a hard time, Amelia's kindness was unwavering. Her door was always open and her stories unforgettable. Amelia worked in the nursing field for close to 30 years, taking care of people when they couldn’t take care of themselves. She loved all of her patients and residents like they were family.
Amelia found joy in the little things that made life sweet. A few of her favorite pastimes were working on puzzles and listening to music—she especially loved 80’s and Spanish music. Music was a constant companion, filling her home with warmth and nostalgia. She had a deep love for family, often capturing candid moments of her son, grandchildren, family and friends. Her walls were lined with framed memories—snapshots of laughter, love, and life well-lived. To Amelia, every picture told a story, and every story deserved to be remembered.
One of her greatest delights was going out to eat—she truly enjoyed the experience of sharing a meal, discovering new spots, and savoring good food in good company. It became a simple joy she never grew tired of, and she always looked forward to the next outing.
Amelia never met a stranger. Her magnetic spirit drew people in, and she had a gift for making anyone feel like family. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, and a loyal friend, someone who saw beauty in life’s simple pleasures and taught others to do the same. Amelia was very family oriented; she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She cherished every moment she got to spend with her family.
