Betty Jo (Walker) Carter was born on October 14, 1934, in Warren, Oklahoma, to Cass Preston and Lillian Jane (Taylor) Walker. She spent most of her youth growing up in Altus, where she met and married the love of her life, Junior Robert Carter, on April 12, 1952. Together, they shared 67 faithful and wonderful years by each other’s side until his passing in 2019. 

Betty pursued a career in healthcare, earning her associate’s degree from Western Oklahoma State College and becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She dedicated her career to caring for others and proudly served the Vernon community.

Betty was known as a woman who spoke her mind and lived life to the fullest. She brought joy and laughter to those around her and loved to travel. Anytime someone said, “Go,” Betty was ready, with her bags already packed and an adventure ahead.

Betty went to be with Jesus on June 21, 2026, in Altus, Oklahoma, at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cass and Lillian; her beloved husband, Junior; and her three siblings, June Walker Joiner, Gayle Walker Newman, and Joyce Walker Goddard.

Her memory will live on through her daughter, Karen Bumgard, and son, Robert Michael Carter; her four grandchildren; and her four great-grandchildren.

While our hearts are broken by her passing, we find comfort knowing that she is no longer in pain and has been welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father after a long and beautiful life well lived.

At her wish, no funeral will be held at this time. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
