Betty VanPelt passed away from this Earth to the arms of Jesus on January 10, 2026, with her family by her side.

Betty Sue (Walter) VanPelt, 85, was born July 14, 1940, in Henryetta, Oklahoma. She was the second of six daughters of Fred and Grace Walter.

Betty met Heinz VanPelt in 1956 on a blind date at a church function. They married on November 1, 1959. From this union came four children, Fred, Grace, Peggy, and Laura. Being in the Army, the family embarked on several extended overseas tours in order to stay together. In doing so they were able to see the world - Italy, Norway, Germany and stateside Arizona, Kansas, Arkansas and North Carolina.

Betty and Heinz retired from the Army in 1978 moving to Glendale, Oklahoma. They later set out to see the United States in their camper with their puppies, Missy and Lucy.

After Heinz passed in 2024, Betty moved into a tiny house to be near her son, Fred and daughter-in-law, Sharon. She loved her tiny house, watching the longhorn cattle, and visiting with her new friends in southwest Oklahoma. Betty particularly enjoyed her great-grandson, Tru, sharing his hunting or fishing story of the day and shopping with her daughter, Peggy.

Betty is survived by her son, Fred and wife, Sharon of Elmer, Oklahoma; three daughters, Grace VanPelt of Antlers, Oklahoma, Peggy Kimbrel of Martha, Oklahoma, and Laura Holson of Eucha, Oklahoma; three sisters, Diann Pebsworth of Checotah, Oklahoma, Sharon Earls of Mustang, Oklahoma, and Becky Higgins and husband, Billy of Melrose, New Mexico; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

A memorial service in Betty’s honor will be held at a later date.
