She attended school in Wichita Falls, Texas and after high school she attended The University of Oklahoma where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree while working in the student union. Carren later attended Southern New Hampshire University and earned a Master of Science/Accounting. Her love for the collegiate student body remained, and Carren continued impacting the lives of young students while working in the OU Housing and Food Services. Carren enjoyed hiking, watching springtime storms, and especially going on trips with her family. Carren passed away 48 days after her 41st birthday after a two-year battle with lung cancer.

Carren’s father, Dwain; paternal grandparents, Gene and Sue Welch; maternal grandparents, Dwain and Alice Freed; uncle, Les Lambert; and many other family and friends greeted her in heaven. Her memory will live on in her mother, Brenda of Altus; sister, Lisa Welch and Chris Mills of Oklahoma City; aunts, Mary Lambert and La Donna Adams both of Altus; uncles, Doug Freed of Corpus Cristi, Gene Welch and Robert Miller both of Altus; numerous cousins; her very special dog, Minnie; and her tribe of friends, T.J., Nancy, Pam, and Nikki.
