Floyd was raised in the Corn area and graduated from Corn High School in 1951. He served with the 44th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War. On May 7, 1955, he married Roberta Clay in Cordell, Oklahoma. Floyd and Roberta eventually settled in Altus where they raised their three children. Floyd did watch repair for Green’s Jewelry before transitioning to his long-term career as foreman of the 443rd Civil Engineering Squadron Carpentry Shop, where he dedicated 24 years of service. Floyd was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, farming, swinging on his front porch swing, and spending time with friends, family and his kitties.
Floyd is survived by his son, Rodney Avant and wife, Vicki, of Altus; daughter, Paula Bemis of Altus; two grandchildren, Jeremy Avant and wife, Yelena of Lincoln, California and Jacey Ramirez and husband, Armando of Dallas, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Liam, Erza, and Marc Avant of Lincoln California, and Gianna and Luca Ramirez of Dallas, Texas; a brother-in-law, Randy Clay of Clinton, Oklahoma; along with many nieces, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Lorena, Samuel, Dorothy, Velmer, and twin, Loyd Avant; his brother-in-law, Robert Clay; his eldest son, Jonathan Avant, and beloved wife, Roberta Avant.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff at Jackson County Home Health & Hospice, Dr. John Tran, and his caregivers, India, Victor, Vicky, and Juanita, who provided countless hours of care and support to Floyd and the family. We would like to thank his neighbors and friends who have shared meals, visits, and kept him held in your thoughts and prayers.
