Garret Slade Netherton

November 8, 1978 — December 8, 2025

Headrick

Garret Slade Netherton, a tremendously kind and loving soul, passed from this life with his beautiful wife, Melissa, by his side on Monday, December 8, 2025. Garret was born to Phil and Donna Sue (Cribbs) Netherton in Lawton, Oklahoma on November 8, 1978. He was the best brother to his siblings, Parrish and Kade, and in truth, a “big brother” to all who were blessed to know him.

Garret grew up in Altus and attended Navajo Schools through the 3rd grade before moving to Colorado, where he graduated from high school and later attended Colorado State University. His journey in life took him through Arizona, Colorado, and Oklahoma before he eventually made his home in Arkansas, the place where he met his best friend, Melissa. They moved back to Garret’s Oklahoma roots and married in Altus on August 16, 2025.

He carried a tender heart and had a rare ability to stay connected to his people—no matter the distance and no matter the years. He loved life deeply and found joy in simple, meaningful moments, especially in preparing a meal and breaking bread with those he loved. For him, it was more than food; it was a way of building relationships.

Garret was incredibly generous and had a thoughtful way with words that could make people laugh, think, and feel seen, but it was his heart that made the biggest impression. He loved deeply believed fiercely and never stopped searching for meaning in all areas of life. He enjoyed researching by reading and listening to podcast documentaries.

A man of many artistic talents, Garret was an avid author, and—true to the Netherton tradition—could pick up a guitar and fill a room with music. His nurturing care, his humor, his loyalty, and his steady presence will be missed more than words can express.

His father, Phil; and brother, Parrish preceded him in death. Garret’s memory will live on in his wife, Melissa; children, Stailey, Garrett, and Landon Spears; mother and stepfather, Donna Sue and Bob Mims; brother, Kade Netherton; and an abundance of other relatives and friends.

A come and go Celebration of Life for Garret will be held at the Warren Community Center from 2:00 – 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

The family humbly requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Garret’s name be made to the Warren Community Center * 21123 State Highway 19 * Blair, Oklahoma 73526 or Navajo School * 15695 SCR 210 * Altus, Oklahoma 73521.
