Gary Austin Stevens, 66, Elmer, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday in the First Assembly of God, Altus, with Pastor Lawrence Neisent and Pastor Len Gipson officiating. Burial will be in the Hess Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Gary was born on January 18, 1944 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma to Lawson David and Willie Mae (Warren) Stevens. He grew up in the Tulsa area until the age of 17, at that time the family moved to Hess, Oklahoma. He graduated from Southside High School. He married Phyllis K. Goforth on April 4, 1964 in Altus. He worked for the local John Deere dealer for 25 years. He attended the First Assembly of God and was a member of the board of directors of the Elmer Volunteer Fire Department. His parents, Lawson David and Willie Mae Stevens, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ernest and Anna Goforth, a brother-in-law, Harold Goforth, and a nephew, Jonathan Goforth, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary Don Stevens and Deidre of Burns Flat, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Brandon and Michael Stevens of Burns Flat, Oklahoma; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry Stevens and Janie of Inola, Oklahoma, Darrell Stevens and Sherrie of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, and Jimmy Stevens and Martha of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda Detrick and Joe of Fort Worth, Texas, Donna Adams and Daniel of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Debbie Adams and James of Mannford, Oklahoma, and Teresa Conder and Jim of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three brothers-in-law, Don Goforth and wife, Gloria, of Tioga, Texas, Troy Goforth of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Glen Goforth and wife, Rhonda, of Altus, Oklahoma; two sisters-in-law, Jeneta Potts and husband, Kenneth, of Richland Hills, Texas, and Marcia Fatkin of Fort Worth, Texas; two uncles, Dawes Stevens and wife, Velva, of Peggs, Oklahoma, and Farris Stevens and wife, Pat, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and several other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1320 NW Homestead Drive, Suite D, Lawton, Oklahoma 73505.
