Geary Charles Poling was born on October 15, 1953, in Hollis, Oklahoma, to J.D. and Ima (Ballard) Poling. He spent his childhood in Altus, where he grew up and built many lasting memories. In 2006, Geary moved to Lawton with the love of his life, Sue Anne (Conger) Poling, where they made their home together.
When one thinks of a good man, Geary is who comes to mind. He was adventurous at heart and enjoyed traveling, fishing, and visiting the casino, even when luck was not on his side. A devoted lover of music, Geary filled life with song. As his wife, Sue often said, “Our life felt like a musical,” because you could always find him singing or playing his guitar. Geary never met a stranger. He went out of his way to build warm relationships and always knew just how to make people smile.
Geary was adored by all his family, especially his girls, his daughter, Kara and special nieces he loved so much Lisa, April, Michelle and granddaughter, Ree. He prided himself on being the best Daddy, and according to his daughters, he truly was. He had a soft spot in his heart and a natural protectiveness over his youngest daughter, Shelby. Geary was also a prankster who loved a good joke, and you could often catch him pulling pranks on his best friend, who also happened to be his brother, Danny.
Geary passed from this life on Monday, December 22, 2025, at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister-in-law, Judi Poling.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Sue Poling; his bonus son, Jamie Roberts; his daughters, Kara Dorsey and her husband, Lamonto and Shelby Lynne Poling; his brother, Danny Poling; his sisters, Sharon Clendennen and her husband, Eddie, Karen Newell and her husband, Johnny, Peggy Mullen and her husband, Gary, and Ladonna Willey and her husband, Jimmie; his grandchildren, Sharee Vandehey, Michael Vandehey, Cherokee Poling, and Madison Poling; his great-grandchildren, Keaden Vandehey and Khloe Vandehey; as well as many other relatives and close friends.
