Altus

Gloria Castro, 66, passed away peacefully at her home in Altus, Oklahoma on Thursday, May 22, 2025. Always the life of the party our angel will be tremendously missed. Gloria’s love, laughter, and music will echo in the hearts of all who knew her. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel in Altus, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

Born on August 12, 1958, in Mathias, Texas to Pantalion and Francisca Torrez, Gloria grew up surrounded by warmth and life, never lacking for friendships with her eight siblings. Around 1982, she moved to Altus, Oklahoma where she built a life close to family and raised her beloved children: Michael, Hilario, Marie, Ida, and Cynthia. Her children fondly recall that when Mom was in a good mood, you were in a good mood. Gloria married Hilario Castro in Vernon, Texas on May 16, 1997. Together, they shared 28 years full of dancing and making memories together.

A passionate cook, Gloria was known for her delicious mole, chicken and rice with squash, homemade tortillas with butter, and enchilada sauce. She had a passion for cooking and showing her love through her dishes. She always ensured that her family was fed a good homecooked meal. During holidays there was always her famous giblet gravy that everyone could not get enough of. Her kitchen was always full of flavor and love. When she was not giving her love to her family through her home cooked meals she would treat them to her favorite restaurant the Fusion Buffet in Lawton. Everyone knew if they were taking a trip to Lawton that they would be blessed to eat a meal at Fusion Buffet with Gloria. She was an avid subscriber to the Avon line of makeup always ordering her favorite mascara and lipstick. A lifelong music enthusiast, Spanish melodies frequently poured from her home with Gloria dancing joyfully along. Her favorite color was emerald green, inspired by her birthstone and the vibrance it represented in her life.

Gloria was Grandma Gloria to 25 grandchildren over three generations, sharing her passion for music and zest for life with each one. As the Jim Morrison lyric goes, “Give me songs to sing and emerald dreams to dream and I’ll give you love unfolding”—a sentiment that truly captured her spirit. She had a voice like no-other, it was always high energy, loving, and full of laughter. Her favorite saying was “Break Time” and everyone knew what that meant. She was truly a one-of-a-kind woman that will be dearly missed by all that knew her.

Her father, Pantalion; brother, Steven Torrez; sister, Consuela Torrez; brother-in-law, Patrick Moriarity; and nephew, Robbi Peña preceded her in death.

Her admiration for music and love for family – to the moon and back - will live on in her husband, Hilario; children, Michael Mejeca (Daisy) of Baytown, Hilario Castro, Jr. (Tara) of Abilene, TX, Marie Torrez of Altus, Ida Delgadillo (Ruben) of Altus, and Cynthia Castro (Juan) of Altus; grandchildren, Elijah, Adam, Aran, Michael Jr., Cruz, Connor, Pantalion, Lexi, Ashley, Lil Ruben, Mercedes, Jaeven, David, Josiah, Abigail, Genesis, Gabrielle, Marianna, Canela, Acelina, Leticia, and Darren; great-grandchildren, Israel, Isaiah, and Noella; siblings, Dubie Torrez (Diane) of Blair, Dora Torrez Moriarity of Olustee, Virginia Torrez (Terry) of Norman, Elisa Torrez of OKC, Bea Torrez of Altus, and Emerald Mary Torrez Dolan (Chris) of OKC; and an abundance of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and numerous friends that she considered her family.
