Obituary

Gracie Gamez-Edgar was born on October 29, 1958, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Apolinar and Francis (Billarrial) Gamez. The only daughter among four children, Gracie grew up in Altus and graduated from Altus High School with the Class of 1977.

Gracie began her career with the Altus Police Department in the 1980s, serving as a dispatcher. In 1992, she transitioned to working as a caseworker for the Child Support Office, where she remained until 2007, when she returned to the Altus Police Department. Gracie took great pride in her work and especially enjoyed going “fishing” for information to help officers solve cases. Her dedication to serving her community continued until her retirement from the Altus Police Department in 2019.

Above all, Gracie cherished her family. She loved spending time with her loved ones and made it a priority to attend her grandchildren’s activities, always wanting to be there to support and encourage them. In her free time, she enjoyed singing karaoke, crocheting, taking walks, and watching movies. She had a particular fondness for comedies and horror films, enjoying a good laugh just as much as a good scare.

Gracie passed away from her earthly home on October 25, 2026, in Clinton, Oklahoma at the age of 67. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created, the love she shared, and the impact she made on those around her will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Apolinar and Francis Gamez; her sister, Anita Gamez; her brother, Edward Gamez; and her son, Brian Gamez.

Those left to cherish her memory include her brothers: Danny Gamez and his wife, Kristy and Ruben Gamez; her daughter: Brittnie Hawkins and her husband, Mathew; her daughter-in-law: Melissa Gamez; her grandchildren: Adrianna Gamez, Emma Gamez, Bristan Gamez, Brillie Hawkins, Maximus Hawkins, and Marttie Hawkins; her great-grandchildren: Mateo Gamez and Azarias Gamez; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gracie’s love for her family, her dedication to her career, and her unique spirit will be remembered always. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched and the family who will forever hold her close in their hearts.
