Obituary

Janice Marie Hokett of Altus, Oklahoma, was born on November 30, 1944, in Hanford, California, to Johnnie Albert Hokett and Hallie Lucille (Sewell) Hokett. In her early years, the family moved to New Mexico, where Janice grew up attending the Artesia school system and proudly graduated with the Class of 1963. She went on to further her education at the University of La Verne in Los Angeles, California, earning a bachelor’s degree in management and laying the foundation for her future career. Throughout her life, Janice made her home in many different places, forming lasting memories and friendships along the way, before ultimately returning to Altus to be close to her beloved sister.

Janice had a creative spirit and a deep love for working with her hands. She enjoyed woodworking, crafts, and sewing, always taking pride in creating something beautiful and meaningful. Whether she was carefully stitching a project, designing a handmade gift, or shaping wood into something special, her talent and patience were evident in all she did. She also had a special gift for creating floral arrangements, blending colors and textures in ways that reflected her natural eye for beauty. Plants were one of her greatest passions. She found joy and peace in nurturing them, and her home was often filled with thriving greenery that reflected her attentive care and love of growing things.

Professionally, Janice worked for Lockheed Martin as a staff configuration specialist, where she applied her organizational skills and attention to detail in a highly technical field. Her dedication and strong work ethic were evident both in her career and in the many personal projects she so lovingly created throughout her life.

Janice passed from this life on February 28, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, David, Lynn, Ardell, and James Hokett; and her sister, Judy Signorelli.

Those left to cherish and honor her memory include her daughter, Constance Austreng-Ayala and her husband, Martin; her son, Kerry Austreng and his wife, Kris; as well as her many grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her greatly.

Per Janice’s request, no services will be held, and her cremated remains will be scattered on Mount Teepee, a place of special meaning to her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation in her memory, honoring her brothers, whom she affectionately and proudly called the “Hokett Boys.”

Online memorial tributes and expressions of sympathy may be left for the family at www.kincannonfuneralhome.com.
