Larry Joel Moore

February 24, 1954 — May 8, 2024

Cache, Oklahoma

Larry Joel Moore was born in Hereford, TX on February 24, 1954, to J.B. and Thelma (Youts) Moore. Larry grew up in Dimmitt, TX along with his parents and two sisters, Sammye (Moore) Hughlett and Janis (Moore) Williams. While growing up they attended the Baptist church in Dimmitt, and this is where Larry was baptized at the age of 10. He was a 1972 graduate of Dimmitt High School. After high school, he devoted the next twenty years to the United States Air Force, which is what brought him to Altus, OK where he was stationed and also met his beloved wife, Barbara, in Snyder, OK in 1974.

Larry and Barbara (Tarpley) were married on May 28, 1975, and made Altus their home. This was where they raised their three children, Kimberly, Steven, and Rebecca before relocating to Cache, OK in 2023.

Larry served in the USAF for twenty years and retired in 1993. Upon retirement, he began his second career as a maintenance mechanic at Bar-S Foods and continued in that field for over twenty years. Larry loved spending time with his family. He never met a soul that he did not leave a positive impression on. He was not one to have many hobbies; but watching NCIS and showing those he loved how to be strong and stubborn while able to toss around sarcasm was something that he did naturally. Larry passed away with loving family by his side on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, in Cache, OK.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; parents, J.B. and Thelma; father and mother-in-law, James and Barbara Tarpley; a sister, Sammye Claudette Hughlett; and a sister-in-law, Judy Blackshere.

Larry left behind many who love him and will continue to instill his strong will, wit, and stubbornness to those left to honor him and his memories. Those left with this honor are his daughter, Kimberly Jean (Moore) Self and husband, Dustin; his son, Steven Warner Moore and wife, Dana; daughter, Rebecca Gale Dilean New; sister, Janis Kay (Moore) Williams; and sister-in-law, Cynthia Walker and husband, Tim. He was loved and cherished by his grandchildren, Tarran Blake Self and wife, Savannah Dawn, Kendra Sharail Moore, Jordan James Self and wife, Ashlie Elizabeth, Brandon James Moore and wife, Laney Amalia, Summer Brooke Self, Camron James New, and Gracelynn Renee Moore. His great-grandchildren include Emma Lee Self, Scarlett Brooke Self, Jason Lane Self, James Blake Self, Chase Nolan Self-Love, Aria Vannalie-Rouge Self-Love, Wyatt James Self, Kaleigha Sharail Moore, and Lincoln James Moore. He will also be greatly missed by numerous other family members and close friends.
