On September 4, 2026, Larry stepped into the presence of his Savior. After a lifetime devoted to seeking the Lord, serving others, and faithfully sharing the Gospel, he was welcomed home to the one he had loved and served so faithfully.

Lorenzo Larry Ortega was born on the 10th day of August 1934, in Jones County, Texas, to Adolfo and Silvestra (Garcia) Ortega.

On October 27, 1953, Larry married Rebecca Cataño in Knox City, Texas. Together, they welcomed five children and built a life centered on their family and their faith. In 1962, Larry was ordained in Munday, Texas, marking an important chapter in a life dedicated to serving Christ.

Larry’s faith was not simply something he spoke about—it was the foundation upon which he built his entire life. Early in his ministry, he moved his family of five to San Antonio, Texas, where he attended the Mexican Baptist Bible Institute to further prepare for ministry and the calling God had placed upon his life.

After completing his studies, Larry and his family returned to Altus, Oklahoma, where his passion for sharing the Gospel continued to grow. He served throughout Oklahoma and Texas as a church planter, preaching and ministering to others. He served as missionary for the Southern Baptist Convention in Mexico. His life was marked by a deep love for the Lord and a sincere desire to ensure that others had the opportunity to hear the message of salvation.

Larry loved to read and study the Bible. He never seemed to grow tired of learning more about God’s Word, and as his faith and knowledge grew, so did his desire to share what he had learned with others. His faith was not simply something he spoke about; it was woven into the way he lived and the way he cared for those around him. He also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, watching a good baseball game, enjoying a boxing match and outdoor camping, but mostly spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolfo and Silvestra Ortega, and his siblings, Delores Montgomery, Janie Marceleno, Louis Ortega, Joe Ortega, Bernardo Ortega, and Alejandra Ortega.

His legacy of faith, love, and family continues through his beloved wife of nearly 73 years, Rebecca; his children; Rosemary Ortega; Gloria Casias and husband, Alex; Ruth Ann Ortega; Charles Ortega and wife, Margaret; and Mark Ortega and wife, Nadine; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his siblings, Marcelina Brewer, Francis Lopez, Robert Ortega, and Carmen Ortega.

For those who knew Larry, his greatest legacy will not simply be measured by the years he lived, but by the faith he shared, the lives he touched, the people he served, and the family he loved so dearly. His earthly journey is complete, but the message he spent his life proclaiming continues through all who knew and loved him.

The family will formally greet friends from 5:30–7:30 PM on Thursday, September 10, at Kincannon Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 11, at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel, with his son-in-law, Alex Casias, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the Altus City Cemetery.

Larry faithfully answered God’s call throughout his life. He preached the Gospel, served others, loved his family, and left behind a legacy of faith that will continue for generations to come. His work here is finished, and he is now home with his Savior.
