Luis G. Hernandez

Luis G. Hernandez, 93, Altus, passed away on Friday, August 13, 2010 at his home. A rosary will be held 7 p.m., Monday, August 16, 2010 at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Father Sundar officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Luis G. Hernandez was born in Marathon, Texas on June 21, 1917. He married Conception Leyva in Alpine, TX, in 1940. She preceded him in death in 1954. He married Maria Berrera, who preceded him in death on March 25, 2006. He was a Supply Supervisor in Civil Service at Altus Air Force Base, retiring in 1982 after thirty-two years of service. Luis was a member of the Knights of Columbus, receiving the honor of Oklahoma Knight of the Year in 1989. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He was named honorary Mayor for the City of Altus when James Starr was Mayor. He enjoyed working in the yard and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Conception and Maria, a sister, Julia, a brother, Juan, a grandson, Joey Hernandez, and a son-in-law, Ben Hernandez. He is survived by two daughters; Rebecca H. Hernandez of Altus, OK, Gilda Lloyd and husband Michael of San Antonio, TX; one son Luis Hernandez, Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK, seven grandchildren; Jorge Hernandez, Dan Hernandez, David Hernandez, Robert Lloyd, Jennifer Bennett, Anthony Hernandez, Kristina Hernandez and many friends.
