Madeline June Corey was born on October 9, 1944, in Kermit, Texas, to Orville H. and Clara Elizabeth (Johnson) Carpenter.

Raised in a military family, Madeline quickly learned how to make friends wherever the United States Air Force stationed her family. Those experiences shaped her adaptable spirit, resilience, and warm, welcoming nature. Eventually, the family landed at Altus Air Force Base, where Madeline graduated from Altus High School with the Class of 1962.

She married Wayne D. Corey in 1966. The lessons she learned throughout her childhood—embracing change with grace while remaining steadfast in her values—prepared her well for married life. Not long after their marriage, Wayne departed to serve in the United States Army. Following an injury, he returned home, and Madeline devoted herself to caring for him until his passing in 1984. Her unwavering love, strength, and selflessness were evident throughout those years as she faithfully cared for the man she loved.

Madeline's passion for travel never faded. Throughout her life, she visited nine different countries, always eager to experience new places and create lasting memories. She and a close-knit group of girlfriends believed no bad day should last for long, and they were always planning their next adventure together, filling their lives with laughter, friendship, and unforgettable experiences.

Madeline also loved to dance. Whether she was two-stepping or clogging, there was rarely a time when she stood still for long. Her joyful spirit and love of life shined through in everything she did. She was a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority for 50 years, where she treasured the friendships and sisterhood that enriched her life. At home, Madeline found peace and fulfillment in tending her flower gardens. Her gentle, nurturing spirit brought beauty and life to everything she touched.

A faithful member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Madeline's deep faith was the foundation of her life. She lived with kindness, compassion, and generosity, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, steadfast devotion to her family and friends, unwavering faith, and the love she freely shared throughout her life.

Madeline passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; son, Aaron Cavanaugh; parents, Orville and Clara; and sister, Cynthia Jane Carpenter. Her bright light and love for adventure will live on in her sister, Barbara Jean Cummings; daughter, Mandy Richards; grandson, Jackson Mark Richards; niece, Mandy Fine; nephew, Corey Cummings; faithful friend, Sharon Wolford; and an abundance of friends and other family members.
