Maria Minerva Gonzales passed away peacefully at her home in Altus, Oklahoma, on August 6, 2025, at the age of 87.
She was born on January 19, 1938, in Brownsville, Texas, to Emilio and Zoila (Saenz) Nuñez. On September 1, 1990, Maria married her beloved husband, Erasmo Gonzales Jr., in Vernon, Texas.
A devoted homemaker, Maria lovingly raised her children and later in life returned to school to earn her Certified Nursing Assistant license—a testament to her resilience and commitment to caring for others.
Maria was most fulfilled in her role as a mother and grandmother. She remained a steadfast presence in the lives of her children, and she cherished the abundance of love found in her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her family was her world, and she poured her heart into every generation that followed her.
Her daughters affectionately referred to her as a “Bingoholic,” as she could spring to life at the mere mention of a game. She loved playing games on her iPad, remained an avid reader, and found joy in immersing herself in western films or anything featuring horses and cowboys. One of her all-time favorite movies was Lonesome Dove.
Maria will be remembered for her loving spirit, playful humor, and the deep devotion she had for her family through her husband of 34 years, Erasmo; daughters, Minerva Rodriguez, Marla Morales, Maricela Alvarado; sons, Julio Morales, Jr. and Eddie Gonzales, III; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; 11 siblings; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A private family memorial service will be held in remembrance of Maria. Online tributes may be made at www.kincannonfuneralhome.com.
