Mario Alberto Buentello was born to Herminio and Consuelo (Borrego) Buentello on August 2, 1953, in Mission, Texas, where he spent his formative years. After graduating from high school, Mario dutifully answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force—a decision that led to a distinguished military career and to the love of his life, his beautiful bride, Elena Solis.

The young couple met in Abilene, Texas while Mario was stationed there, and they were married on the 11th day of July 1975.

In 1984, the family of five landed at Altus Air Force Base, where Mario and Elena raised their three sons, Rolando, Jaime and Mario, Jr. Despite the demands of military life and years of TDYs, Mario was a devoted, hands-on father. He and his boys affectionately called one another “Homie,” a special term of endearment that followed them well into adulthood and reflected their deep bond.

A natural leader, Mario led an aircraft mechanic team working on the Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker. His “fix-it” approach extended far beyond the flight line—it was a way of life. A true jack-of-all-trades, Mario could tackle nearly any project put before him. While his career was marked by success and dedication, Mario knew early on that his greatest calling was his family.

A strong man of faith, Mario instilled his love for the Lord in his children by example. He treasured time spent with his family, whether barbecuing in the backyard, lending a helping hand, or assisting his sons with their never-ending “honey-do” lists. Those simple moments became lasting memories, rooted in love, faith, and togetherness.

Mario’s life was a testament to faithful service—to his country, to his family, and to his Lord. He walked with quiet strength, guided by his unwavering trust in God and a heart rooted in love. He passed from this life on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at the age of 72.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, James; brothers, Carlos and Jorge; and brother-in-law, Juan Flores. His legacy lives on in his wife of over 50 years, Elena; sons, Rolando (Cindy), Jaime A. (Patricia), and Mario A. Jr. (Ashley); grandchildren, Savannah, Miranda, Triston, Jenna, Arianna, Rhea, Paul, Sonya, Ashley, Damien, and Daija; great-grandchildren, Emma, Jason, Wyatt, Hope, and Ricky; siblings, Ricardo (Maria) Carlos (Alicia), Consuelo (Ernesto), Anna, and San Juanita; and many nieces, nephews, church family and friends.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in the promise of Scripture that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Mario’s legacy lives on through the lives he shaped, the values he instilled, and the love he freely gave. Until they meet again, his family rests in the assurance that he has been welcomed home, hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

The family will formally greet friends from 3:00 – 5:00 PM on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Kincannon Funeral Home. Mario will be laid to rest at Altus City Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 7th, with full military honors rendered by the Blue Knights Honor Guard.
