Mario Colón Torres made the world a brighter place from the very beginning. He was born on August 6, 1959, in Guánica, Puerto Rico, to Mario Colón and Monserrate Torres Pagán. He relocated to America, first settling in New Jersey then making his way to Altus, Oklahoma to be near family.
To know Mario was to know his generosity as “Mr. Fix It.” He was a natural handyman who could find a solution to anything—whether it was fixing something around the house or offering emotional support. His calm and reassuring “it’s okay” attitude toward life helped shape his greatest joys, his daughters, Melanie and Shanie, into the women they are today.
Always finding something to do, Mario worked for many years at Walmart before retiring. With a quick smile, he became the unofficial greeter of his group and was affectionately dubbed “Super Mario” by his peers.
A kid at heart, Mario was an avid Bruce Lee fan and a devoted gamer—Super Mario, of course, and Call of Duty were his favorites. His gentle spirit and playful sense of humor often left you laughing... and occasionally wondering if you’d just been lovingly roasted.
Mario loved playing the lottery and often joked that he already had a plan for when the winning ticket finally came through. True to his “Mr. Fix It” nature, the top of his list began with things to repair around the house. But in classic Super Mario fashion, that practical list soon turned into a heartfelt wish list for his girls.
Above all, Mario was the best Grandpa. He had a gift for meeting each of his grandchildren where they were in life, making every one of them feel uniquely loved and special.
After a lengthy illness, Mario passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, He was 66 years old.
Mario’s memory will live on through his daughters, Melanie Colón and Shanie Rodriguez and her partner, Bradly Parker; and his beloved grandchildren, Janise Rodriguez, Dominic Rodriguez, Dorian Rodriguez, Jace Rodriguez, Adyn Rodriguez, and Rylee Colón.
