Mark Steven McDowell

Mark Steven McDowell, 69, passed away with family by his side on February 19, 2024, in Altus. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. 

Mark was born on February 8, 1955, in Dayton, Ohio to his biological mother, Bessie Watson. He was later adopted by the late Cobrin and Ina McDowell in 1966. He served in the United States Navy from 1972 to 1992. During his years in the Navy, he met the love of his life Pamela Sue (Callahan) McDowell, and they were united in marriage on August 25, 1980, in Naples, Italy. During their 44 years of marriage, they had two daughters together, Mindy and Mandy. Upon his retirement from the Navy, he and his family moved to Altus, where he owned and operated Mark’s Gun Shop. His favorite hobbies include riding motorcycles, collecting guns, and hanging out with his grandchildren whom he loved dearly. 

He is survived by his spouse, Pamela Sue McDowell; daughters, Mindy McDowell and Mandy Mercer; sister, Margaret Brady; brother, Rodney McDowell; grandchildren, Natalie Whitfield, Hailey Shipley, Alex Lazarus, Jordan Mercer, Brookelyn Whitfield, and Ava Coble. 

Mark is preceded in death by his biological mother, Bessie Watson; adoptive parents, Corbin C. and Ina McDowell; sister Theresa Ann Herbst; brothers, Aley Ray McDowell and Billy Joe McDowell.
