Markus Troy “Mark” Coke, Jr., 73, of Altus, Oklahoma went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 18, 2024. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Kincannon Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at First Baptist Church-Altus. Arrangements are under the care of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Mark was born on March 23, 1950, in Quanah, Texas to Ima Ree (Sheehan) and Markus Troy Coke, Sr. He went to Eldorado Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1968 as salutatorian. Upon graduating high school, Mark attended Southwestern State College (now Southwestern Oklahoma State University), graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor of Political Science. He furthered his education at the University of Oklahoma of Law, graduating with a Juris Doctorate in 1975. While at OU Law, Mark met fellow student and love of his life, Catherine Josephine Codding. The two were married on May 25, 1974, in Foraker, Oklahoma. Mark and Catherine moved to Altus in 1975 to begin their legal careers and raise their two children, Troy and Barbara. Mark was a well-respected attorney who specialized in wills and trusts, probate, and real estate. He served on the board of directors of National Bank of Commerce and was active in local civic groups. Mark was an avid bicyclist and motorcyclist. He loved exploring America’s beauty spots with fellow riders and narrowly avoiding speeding tickets. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Altus where he and his wife attended together.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Larry Coke. He is survived by his children, son, Troy and wife Michelle; daughter, Barbara Reid and husband John; grandchildren, Jake Coke, Jackson Reid and Amelia Coke; brother-in-law, Julian K. Codding; sisters-in-law, Donna Coke and Dr. Christine Codding; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
