Mary O. Esparza

Mary O. Esparza, 55, of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at OU Medical Center, surrounded by her friends and family.

Mary worked for KWHW for many years, where she earned the affectionate title “Queen of Radio.” She was deeply involved in the Altus Hispanic Association for many years and played a key role in organizing numerous community events, including the annual Easter egg hunts at the city park and the annual Cinco de Mayo celebrations for the City of Altus.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, Louis Ortega; her mother, Lina Ortega; her sister, Dora Villega; and her niece, Christina Ortega.

She is survived by her beloved dogs, Hay and Hennessy; her brothers, Edward Ortega of Wichita Falls, Texas, Danny Ortega and wife, Jeanette of Arlington, Texas, and Louis Ortega, Jr. of Altus; her sisters, Donna Gutierrez and husband, Joe of Tipton, Oklahoma, Carolyn Zamara of Vernon, Texas, and Janie Garcia and husband, Rudy of San Antonio, Texas; her longtime boyfriend, Steven Garcia; her niece, Kim Garcia and husband, Amando of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; along with many other nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her best friend, Robert Rodriguez, and many dear friends whom Mary loved very much.
