Mellody Carol Joyner was born on December 23, 1962, in West Virginia to George and Wanda (Mullins) Gregg. From an early age, Mellody loved the Christmas season—a joy that stayed with her throughout her life. She and her siblings were never without fun or friends. After graduating high school, Mellody went on to attend college. She relocated to Altus, Oklahoma for a change of scenery where she met her soon-to-be husband, Frank Edmond Joyner. She and Frank exchanged vows in Las Vegas on June 6, 2017.
She had a true gift for making things flourish—whether it was her garden, her beautiful family, or her work as the assistant manager at Braum’s. Mellody loved playing Bingo, visiting Las Vegas, tending to her yellow roses, and all things Elvis. She found relaxation in arts and crafts and enjoyed going fishing. Above all, her most treasured moments were spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially during the Christmas season.
Mellody passed away at her home in Altus, Oklahoma on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the age of 62. She was preceded in death by her children, Christian Tate and Jewelissa Johnson; and her father, George. Her fun, nurturing spirit will live on in her husband, Frank; children, Jasonn Tate “Fry Fenix”, Justin Tate, Jennifer Tate (Dawaun), Saighla Clark (James), and Acacia Johnson (Deondra); 12 grandchildren, Taraia, Kiana, Christina, Mitchell, Jamiyah, Emiari, Gianni, Messiah, Zaire, Tyr, Taiya, and Auroa; six great-grandchildren, Judah, Jr., Jalami, Kyrianna, Adrianna, and Aureya; her mother, Wanda; and siblings, Mike Gregg (Lisa), John Gregg (Kira), and Steve Gregg (James); and a host of other family members and many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 12th at The Door Church of Altus. Online tributes may be made at www.kincannonfuneralhome.com.
