Reba Louise Drury, a lifetime resident of the Olustee area, stepped into the arms of Jesus as He proclaimed, "well done, my good and faithful servant", on Friday, February 28, 2025, just 11 weeks and 5 days prior to her 102 birthday. She was born on May 22, 1923, to Rando and Kate (Miller) Bruce, just north of the Red River, Jackson County, Oklahoma.
Following graduation from Harmony High School, Reba attended college at Draughon's Business School in Wichita Falls, Texas. Later in life, she worked at the Olustee elevator during wheat harvest, the US Postal Service for a number of years, and the Jackson County Treasurer's Office for a few years during tax season. She always volunteered at every school, community, and church function. She was a long-time member of the Pilgrims Rest Primitive Baptist Church in Eldorado, Oklahoma.
Reba married the love of her life, Lawayne Drury, on December 18, 1942. Their lifelong devotion to each other lasted for almost seventy-eight years. Friends and family hardly ever saw one without the other. They raised five children, Kenny, Dean, Ted, Tim, and Lisa. She was a loving and caring parent, grandparent, great and great-great grandparent.
Her life was dedicated to family, farming, and ranching. Reba valued hard work and enjoyed working on the land and cattle operation. Even at 91, she was still sitting on her bucket, taking inventory of the cattle at the spring and fall works. We offered her a chair of course, but she preferred her bucket! Reba was the definition of tough but poised and she displayed a fierce spirit and determination throughout her life. That legacy of resilience and courage was passed on to Reba’s family and her love and wisdom shaped them for generations.
Reba was welcomed to Heaven by her husband, Lawayne; parents, Rando and Kate; brothers and sisters, Bob Bruce, Jim Bruce, Virginia Hatton, and Ramona Gramling; granddaughter, Sheila Oldham; and grandson, Benton "Ed" Drury.
She is survived by her children, Kenny Mercer, Dean Peterson (Bill), Ted Drury, Tim Drury (Lisa), and Lisa Carson (Bruce); grandchildren, Chanon Motheral, Amy Brackin (Courtney), Brad Peterson (Melissa), Amanda Otten (Micheal), Andrea Tuey (Dave), Alisha Wilson (Steve), Audry Jordan (Buddy), Riley Richtermeier (Ryan), Bailey Roberts (Parker), Katy Patterson (Joe), and Joe Carson; 22 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Brenda Torres, Leticia Gomez, Kami Gonzales, and JCMH Hospice. We were so very blessed, and we truly appreciate how helpful, loving, and caring Brenda and Leticia were from the beginning to the end of Mother's journey.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, March 7th, at Kincannon Funeral Home. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 8th, in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel. Burial will immediately follow at Boggy Cemetery.
