There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” — John 15:13. That scripture perfectly captures the life and character of Robert Kent “Bob” McGill.

Affectionately known as Bob, he was born on October 22, 1954, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, to William Fredrick and Eva Marie (Pesi) McGill. From a young age, Bob possessed a natural instinct to protect others. His desire to serve as a peacemaker and guardian remained a defining part of his character throughout his life.

After graduating from Belle Vernon Area High School, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force in August 1972. While stationed in Great Falls, Montana, he met Diana Rose Offerdahl. The two were united in marriage on April 15, 1975, and together built a loving family, raising their two sons, Jason and Joshua.

Bob faithfully served his country for 20 years in the United States Air Force, eventually landing at his final duty station, Altus Air Force Base before retirement. Following his military career, he graduated from C.L.E.E.T. and began a second career with the Altus Police Department, where he dedicated another 23 years to serving and protecting the citizens of Southwest Oklahoma. Bob and Diana grew to love the community they called home and chose to remain in Altus following his retirement in 2015.

Never one to remain idle, Bob stayed actively involved in the community he cherished. He was deeply committed to supporting fellow veterans through his 30+ years of work with the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Later in life Bob was actively involved in the Great Plains Stampede Rodeo Committee. His patriotism never wavered, but above all else, Bob treasured the time spent creating memories with those he loved most—his family.

Bob’s final End of Watch came on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the age of 71.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Eva McGill; his brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and LuAnn McGill; and in-laws, Bill and Rose Offerdahl.

Those left to carry forward his legacy of loyalty, courage, and service include his best friend and beloved wife of 51 years, Diana McGill; sons, Jason Robert McGill and wife, Denise and Joshua William McGill and wife, Tiffanie; grandchildren, Samantha Dorn, Meaghan Barnett, Corbin McGill, Kiera McGill, and Christina Roberson; great-grandchildren, Callahan, Carter, Gabriel, Shawna, Jupiter, Chandler, and Charlotte; sister, Cheryl (McGill) Boyles and husband, Richard; sister-in-law, Donnie Fultz and husband, Ted; many cousins, nephews, and nieces; his families at FOP Lodge 120 and VFW Post 4876; and a lifetime of cherished friends.

It has been said that “Courage is the quiet decision to stand between danger and the people you serve.” Those words beautifully describe the heart of Robert Kent “Bob” McGill—a man whose life was marked by courage, sacrifice, faithfulness, and love.

Bob will lie in state beginning at 9:00 AM on Monday, June 1st. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, June 3rd, in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with State VFW Chaplain Marcus King officiating. In honor of Bob’s deep love for his country and lifelong dedication to serving others, attendees are encouraged to wear patriotic attire.

A United States Flag Presentation will be conducted by the Altus Police Department Honor Guard and the VFW District 5 Honor Guard. Full United States Air Force Honors will be rendered by the Blue Knights Honor Guard.
