Shirley Casey

December 16, 1937 — January 15, 2024

Shirley Ann Casey, 86, of Harker Heights, Texas, passed away on January 15, 2024.  She was born on December 16, 1937, in Altus, Oklahoma, to the late Floyd Marshall (Pat) and Katie Long.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Dana Casey Lentz; and son-in-law, Michael Lentz. She was a loving grandmother (Mawmaw) to her granddaughters, Erin Lentz and Megan Lentz; and grandsons, Daniel Casey and Jeffrey Casey.  Shirley is also survived by her sisters, Ruth Thomason and Kay Johnson; and brothers, Wayne Long and Buddy Long; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ronald Casey; her sons, Patrick Casey and Timothy Casey; and her sister, Patsy Derr.

In 1960, Shirley married a young airman, Ronald Casey, and they began their lives together.   They traveled with the Air Force from Oklahoma to Ohio, Michigan, California, Mississippi, and back to Oklahoma. After Ron’s Air Force retirement in 1983, they moved to Plano, Texas. Shirley worked for the Xerox Corporation as an executive secretary and in human resources for over twenty years.  Upon her and Ron’s retirements, they moved to Harker Heights, Texas to be closer to Shirley’s sister Patsy and to enjoy a more “small town” environment.  Shirley quickly settled into the community and built many lifelong friendships.

Shirley enjoyed various hobbies. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed crocheting and knitting. After retirement, she dedicated her time to learning and practicing the art of china painting and was active in many clubs and organizations.  Shirley was a past member of the Republican Women’s Club, a former board member of the Food Care Center, and an active member of Threads of Love, the Modern Study Club and two different book clubs.

With her sister Ruth, she was a member of the Belton Church of Christ and greatly enjoyed the fellowship of the members and especially the Beacon’s Club.
