Shirley Jean Holder

July 3, 1938 — September 19, 2023

Shirley Jean Holder, 85, Altus, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2023, in Oklahoma City. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Shirley Jean Clapp was born in Frederick, Oklahoma on July 3, 1938 to Eugene and Lucy Faye (Roberts) Clapp. She attended school in Hollister and graduated with the Class of 1956. She married the love of her life, James Richard “Jim” Holder on June 29, 1956 in Grandfield, Oklahoma. Jim and Shirley made their home in Altus until 1993 when they moved to Olustee. Shirley moved back to Altus in 2010 until her death. She retired from the OSU Extension Service around the year 2000 and then made her work home at Cattlemens Bank, formerly Stockmans Bank. She retired from the Bank in June of this year. She loved her jobs and every person she came in contact with. She was the best listener and very rarely interjected her opinion on others. She saved her opinion for her very opinionated and sometimes questionable Facebook posts. Mom was referred to by a friend as the “Face of Cattlemens Bank.”  Many friends have mentioned how they loved to visit with Shirley and how she made them feel welcomed, listened to, and important. The absolute joy of her life was her family. She never missed an opportunity to jump in someone’s car to tag along on a trip, however, rocking the grandbabies was her ultimate happy place. She had the magic touch and loved every minute of it and so did the babies.

Preceding her in death are her husband of 46 years, Jim; parents, Eugene and Faye Clapp; brother, Edmond Clapp; brother in-law, John Slater; and two nephews, Conrad and Kenneth Clapp.

Those left to honor Shirley’s memory are her children, Diane Chowning, Rick Holder and wife, Angie, Mark Holder and wife, Kathy, and Kari Pryor and husband, Scott; grandchildren, Julie Miller and husband, Chad, Laurey Dunn and husband, Rodney, Tanner Holder and wife, Tara, Tyler Holder and wife, Rachael, Jamie Chapman and husband, Layne, Haley Pannell and husband, Brent, Kelci Cunningham and husband, Connor, Dylan Pryor and wife, Maddie, and Harrison Holder; great grandchildren, Carson and Carlee Miller, Holder, Foster, Addler, and Sawyer Dunn, Turner and Taos Holder, Rhett and Eason Holder, Jaxon and Prestyn Chapman, Hadley and baby Pannell, Lucy, Hattie, and Collier Cunningham, and Livvie Pryor; siblings, Granville Clapp and wife, Marilyn, Wanda Slater, and Janell Gibson and husband, Tom; sister in-law, Pam Clapp; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends and traveling companions, the Golden Girls; her Cattlemens Bank family; and many, many friends.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at the funeral home. Online tributes may be made at kincannonfuneralhome.com. The service livestream may be viewed at https://youtube.com/live/mb8cEq69Vp4?feature=share.
