Sonja Gale Box, 83, longtime resident of Blair, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023 at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. A memorial service will take place at a later date. Cremation services are under the care of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Sonja Gale Polk was born on November 6, 1939 in Frederick, Oklahoma to Robert Polk and AnnaGale Williams. She attended Headrick High School and graduated with the Class of 1957. She married the love of her life, Billy Bob ‘Bill’ Box in Headrick on August 17, 1957 and to this union three children were born, Denise, Brent, and Jon. Sonja and Bill owned B-W Western Wear Store in Altus. Later, Sonja worked as a supervisor at Jackson County Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 2018. She was an active member of the Great Plains Stampede Rodeo committee and an integral part of the queen contest. Sonja was of the Christian faith and enjoyed watching rodeo in any form, Navajo School sports, and sports on TV.
Her husband of 63 years, Bill; parents, Robert and AnnaGale; brother, Jon Robert Polk; and grandson, Brandon Schmidt, preceded her in death. Those left to honor Sonja’s memory are her children, Denise Clement and husband, Terry, Brent Box and wife, Judy, and Jon Box and wife, Teri; nine grandchildren, Cassidy Daniels and husband, Willie, Matt Levick and wife, Jessica, Kelsi Moody and husband, Justin, Braden Box and wife, Annie, Tyler Box and wife, Jessica, Taylor Box and husband, Willis Price, Tanner Box, Jaclyn Schmidt and fiancé, Jad Daye, and Marisa Schmidt; seven great grandchildren, Levi and Luke Levick, Alexis Lee, Lila Daniels, Abagail and Austyn Moody, and Waylon Price; sisters, Angela Benson and partner, Michael Schupp and Diane Jackson and partner, Tim Farnsworth; and many other family and friends.
