Susanna LaMina Hanson

June 8, 1948 — February 20, 2024

Altus

Susanna LaMina (Dunlap) “Sue” Hanson passed away peacefully with family by her side February 20, 2024, in Altus, Oklahoma. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 24th at the Centennial Memorial Chapel at the Altus City Cemetery. Burial arrangements are under the care of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Sue was born June 8, 1948, to the late Kathleen (Lauder) Bias and Lewis Dunlap in Sacramento, California. She lived in Sacramento until the age of 18 when she married the love of her life, William Dawes Hanson on May 20, 1967. Bill joined the Air Force not long after and they moved to Travis AFB, Dover AFB, and Altus AFB where they chose to stay and call home.

Sue loved her family and the many friends who became family above all else. That is what she did best. She loved with her whole heart and would always make sure you knew that she loved you. She taught those that knew her how to love because she loved without bounds. As one granddaughter said best, she was the “epitome of forgive and forget” although her family could tell you she never really forgot but she loved you anyway. She never met a stranger and would give a person the sparkly, bedazzled hat off her head, literally and often. It was not a strange occurrence to find her buying something for a friend or stranger or even paying for someone’s groceries. She loved making beaded bracelets, bedazzled hats, and crocheting hats, scarves, and blankets.

Sue especially loved traveling with Bill to visit their many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, children, grandchildren, and special friends like Nonie. They were expert road trippers and spent many summers going between Oklahoma and California which included taking their very spoiled grandchildren to Disneyland many times. There is nothing Sue wouldn’t have done for the ones she loved. She was loved by so many and was just always there.

Sue is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Hanson, married 57 wonderful years; beloved dog Minnie; her children, Christine Hanson-Tull (Gene) of Altus, OK and William “Billy” Hanson (Shelly) of Cheney, Washington, and her 'adopted' daughter, Sherry Fish (Dwayne) of Altus, OK; her grandchildren, Emilee Smith (Kimothy), Robert Johnson (Leigh Alexandra), Jessica Tull, Bailey Johnson, Shelby Hanson, Shauna Hanson, Dawes Hanson, and Sarah Hanson; her great-grandchildren, William “Liam” Johnson, James Johnson, and Acelee Smith; and her nieces and nephews, Martin Schuler, Joelwella (Mike) Reeder, Stephanie (Dave) Shipley, Teri (Johnny) Mealer, Shawna Hanson, Cliff Mikkelson, Tammy (Andrew) Anderson, and David (Carrie) Yearwood. She also leaves behind many friends and loved ones that while not blood related, they may as well have been.

Sue was preceded in death by her mother, Kathleen Bias; stepfather, William George Mitsos; and father, Lewis Dunlap; and siblings, Kenneth (Lewis) Dunlap and Audrey Schuler.
