Terry Byrd

Terry Lee Byrd, 85, Altus, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Memorial Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Monday, February 26^th, in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Bob Mills officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Terry was born in Hollis, Oklahoma on January 27, 1939, to Roy James and Ruby Dell (Cunningham) Byrd. He attended school in Hollis, graduating with the Class of 1957. Terry attended Cameron College where he was a member of the National Championship Baseball Team of 1958. He later attended Central State and received a Bachelor of Education, graduating in 1969. Terry married Sandra Sue Spradling on November 15, 1957, in Perry, Oklahoma. They made their home in Altus where they both taught school for Altus Public Schools until their retirements. Terry played American Legion Baseball and was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame on August 1, 2021. He was a member of the Tamarack Road Church of Christ and served as a deacon. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, working in the yard, and spending time with his grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Sandra; son, Kyle Byrd; and parents, Roy and Ruby Dell. Those left to honor Terry’s memory are his sons, Craig Byrd and Blake Byrd and wife, Mandy; five grandchildren, Chad Byrd and wife, DeLana, Sean Byrd and wife, Tamara, and Tyler Byrd, Colby Byrd, and Blakely Byrd; five great grandchildren, Noah, Madison, Austin, Marley, and Ava Byrd; sister, Fran Shaw and husband, Hooty; brother, Tom Byrd and wife, Karen; sisters-in-law, Lorrain Spradling and Betty Roberts and husband, James; and many nieces and nephews, students, school associates, church family, and friends.
