William “Bill” Lloyd Davis, 86, of Blair, died early Wednesday morning, May 12, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, at the Altus City Centennial Chapel with Bill Osborne officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home, Altus. Bill was born January 22, 1924, in Athens, Ala., to William Leslie and Mary Gladys Isom Davis. He married Emma Lee Dykes on March 17, 1960, in Miami, Okla. They had three children. He joined the military when he was 17 years old and served for 32 years. He was a member of the armed forces, serving in the United States Air Force and United States Amy. He fought in World War II, during which he stormed the beaches of Normandy on the first day. He also fought in the Vietnam War and the Korean Conflict. After retiring from the military, Bill worked at Osbornes for 12 years. Bill enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed outdoor activities, including camping trips, fishing, and taking walks. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife during their younger years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma, on Dec. 19, 2009; a grandson, Ryan Anthony Huckaby; his parents; three sisters-in-law, Alma Spencer, Lillian Gowins, and Eva Garrett; and five brothers-in-law, Samuel Dykes, William “Little Bill” Dykes, Gordon “George” Dykes, Mack Cannon, and Clarence Fudge. He is survived by four daughters, Lynette Davis of Mt. Shasta, Calif., Sheila Davis-Huckaby of Altus, Cynthia Mains and husband, Mack, of Tipton, and Peggy Davis of Alabama; ten grandchildren, Autumn, Amanda and Kelley Lynne Hankins of Dunsmuir, Calif., Lindsey and Devin Huckaby of Altus, Trey Mains of Tipton, and Amy, Melanie, Jeffrey and Bethany of Alabama; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Cannon and Barbara Fudge of Alabama; one sister-in-law, Rosetta Yarbrough and husband, Nathan, of Wichita, Kan.; and a brother-in-law, Elmer Dykes and wife, Glenda, of Kansas.
