William S. Kelly

William S. “Bud” Kelly, 89, longtime resident of Elmer, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. No services are scheduled. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

 

William Shirley Kelly was born on April 14, 1935, in Bogata, Texas to William “Jess” and Grace Novell (Gable) Kelly. He was raised in Bogata and graduated school from there. The Kelly family moved to Oklahoma, making Elmer their home. Bud began working at gas stations at an early age. He later became the manager of Altus Supply Hardware store until its closing in 1983. He then directed his attention to his other businesses, small engine repair and working on water wells throughout southwest Oklahoma. Bud was well known for his honest and dependable work.

 

Many people depended on Bud for his mechanical skills. He never met a stranger, and he had numerous friends throughout the years. He collected and played several different musical instruments. Bud taught his sisters how to play and they enjoyed getting together for family jam sessions. He was an avid reader, liked gardening, taking photographs of old buildings, and taking trips with his family. He enjoyed a fulfilling life.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Grace; and sisters, Mary Richardson, Nina Park, and Dorothy Sue Sirmons. He is survived by two sisters, Doris Kerbo and husband, Harold of Oklahoma City and Mickey Travis of Mission, Texas; brother, Arnold Kelly and wife, Shigemi of Azle, Texas; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
